Can you still claim benefits while working?

You normally can’t do any work while claiming Employment and Support Allowance. However, you can do what’s known as ‘permitted work’ and remain entitled to Employment and Support Allowance (ESA) .

How many hours can you work and still collect EI?

You are eligible for 35 or more hours of weekly work while on EI benefits. Your regular benefit will decrease by 50 cents for every dollar of income you earn, up to your earning threshold. This means that if you work while getting EI, half the amount you earn will be taken off your EI benefits.

How much money can I make while on EI?

If you earn money while receiving EI benefits, you can keep 50 cents of your benefits for every dollar you earn, up to 90 percent of your previous weekly earnings (roughly four and a half days of work). Above this cap, your EI benefits are deducted dollar-for-dollar.

Is it worth working while on EI?

You will be able to keep 50 cents of your EI benefits for every dollar you earn, up to 90% of the weekly insurable earnings used to calculate your EI benefit amount, if you work while receiving regular benefits and have served your waiting period.

Will I still get Universal Credit if I work?

You may still be able to receive Universal Credit payments when you start work or increase your earnings. You will continue to receive Universal Credit until your earnings are high enough, at which point your payments will stop.

Can a person still collect Social Security if they are still working?

There may be one good reason to consider taking benefits if you’re still working, and that is the spousal benefit. The spousal benefit allows partners to claim 50% of the benefits being paid to their spouses if that amount is higher than they would have received based upon their own work histories. 7 

What happens if you work while getting employment insurance?

In the past, people who worked while getting EI could keep all of their earnings up to 40% of what they were getting from EI. Or, they could keep up to $75 if that was more. But everything they earned above that amount was taken off their EI benefits.
