Obtaining a loan from your 401k account is an option you can use to get the money you need for closing costs. The maximum loan amount the IRS permits is 50 percent of the account balance up to $50,000. Loans to purchase homes are not taxable as long as they are paid back.

Does it make sense to use 401K to buy a house?

The short answer is yes, you are allowed to use funds from your 401(k) plan to buy a home. It is not the best move, however, because there is an opportunity cost in doing so; the funds you take from your retirement account cannot be made up easily.
