What if the title has two names on it?

Yes. If there are 2 owners listed on the front of a title, the majority of the time, both people will need to sign as the seller. If there is an ‘or’ in between the names, typically only 1 signature is required. Check your state title instructions from the links below for your specific state.

If an OR separates the two names either can sign off on the title for it to be sold or traded.

Do both owners listed on the title have to be physically present and sign in the presence of a notary, or since it is titled with “or” can just one of the owners sign over the title in a notarized manner?

What happens if the title says ” or “?

If the title clearly states “or,” either owner may unilaterally sell the car. However, please be sure that there is no known objection by the other owner as to selling the car. You may run… I agree with Attorney Handin’s assessment of your situation.
