Why is health insurance important to everyone?

It’s important to have health insurance as a safety net. If you unexpectedly get sick or injured, health insurance is there to help cover costs that you likely can’t afford to pay on your own. Health care can be very expensive. It can be an enormous financial burden.

Why should we not have health insurance?

The risks of going uninsured are primarily cost related. Some of the main risks that you could face by going uninsured are: Steep healthcare costs – Without health insurance you may get charged much more for care that would otherwise be covered by your plan.

Is health insurance good or bad?

Health insurance provides people with a much needed financial backup at times of medical emergencies. Health risks and uncertainties are a part of life. One cannot plan and get sick but one can certainly be prepared for the financial aspect.

What happens if you don’t have health insurance?

Catching health problems early increases the probability of successful treatment and also reduces the health care costs for treatment. Without health insurance coverage, a serious accident or a health issue that results in emergency care and/or an expensive treatment plan can result in poor credit or even bankruptcy .

Why do people take out private health insurance?

Others choose to take out policies to avoid waiting times for elective treatment (predominantly surgery); to choose their own specialist or hospital; or to have the option of a private room, better food or more attractive facilities. Some people perceive that private health insurance will give them access to better care in the private system.

How many people in United States do not have health insurance?

In 2018, according to a report by the U.S. Census, 8.5 percent of people, or 27.5 million adults (between the ages of 19-64), did not have health insurance at any point during the year. Census findings showed that the uninsured rate and number of uninsured increased from 2017 (7.9 percent or 25.6 million). 1 

What would happen if health care was free?

Fewer people would get sick or die. But, healthcare isn’t free, each citizen must pay a portion under taxation, probably based on an income tax surcharge which would depend on which state one lived in. All of that would actually be cheaper per person, and businesses would be free of a major drain on their resources.
